For two or three nights with Old Town walks, Cangshan and a lake outing, choose a guesthouse near an Old Town gate or its outer road. You can walk to dinner and use one base for your outings. Choose a west-shore stay when sunrise and time beside the water are the main reason for the trip. Xizhou suits mornings among Bai courtyards and fields; Shuanglang suits a stay spent looking across the lake toward Cangshan.

From the station or airport to your hotel

Old Town From Dali railway station (大理站), direct buses to Dali Old Town (大理古城 / 环洱海服务中心) run about 17 km in 40 minutes for CNY 5 per person. From Dali Airport, an airport shuttle bus serves the south gate (古城南门) for CNY 25 per person (October 2026 rate). Transfer from the bus drop-off to a local taxi or ride-hailing car to reach your hotel's street entrance, then walk the remaining paved pedestrian lanes to your stay.
Caicun or Longkan Book a direct car from the railway station or airport to the specific village meeting point arranged with your stay. Alternatively, take the station bus to Old Town and call a local car from there. The ecological corridor gates (才村入口 and 龙龛入口) are separate from your property's vehicle meeting point. Confirm your host's designated road pick-up point and luggage arrangements before walking down narrow village paths.
Xizhou Expect roughly a one-hour direct taxi or ride-hailing ride from either Dali railway station or the airport. Arrange to meet your guesthouse host at Zhengyi Gate (正义门) or an agreed public parking lot before walking into the pedestrian courtyard lanes.
Shuanglang A direct car along the eastern shore from the station or airport takes around an hour in clear traffic. Agree on a vehicle drop-off at Shuanglang South Gate (双廊南口) or Dajianpang Qiumudian Parking (大建旁秋木甸停车场), and have your host meet you there for the lane walk and luggage assistance.
Xiaguan or Dali Station Stay close to the station for early morning train departures. The airport shuttle bus connects Dali Airport to Dali Station for CNY 15 per person (October 2026 rate), while city bus Route 1 runs between the station and Jianshe Road (建设路) in central Xiaguan. Properties further along the southern lakeshore, including Pullman Dali, require a short separate taxi ride from the station.
Haidong or airport side Four Points by Sheraton Dali Erhai offers airport pickup by advance reservation; the hotel is 4.7 km from Dali Airport. From the railway station, take a direct taxi straight to the hotel. Confirm shuttle pick-up points directly with the front desk. Waterfront village guesthouses across Haidong have separate road approaches.

For flights departing from Dali Airport, airport-bound buses depart from Fenghuaxueyue Hotel Parking (风花雪月酒店停车场) near Old Town's East Gate for CNY 20, and from the airport city terminal inside Dali Port (大理港码头内机场城市候机楼) in Xiaguan for CNY 12 (October 2026 rates). Old Town: dinner on foot and a courtyard to return to

Dali Old Town 大理古城 has evening food around Renmin Road 人民路 and walks along Fuxing Road 复兴路. A side lane or a property outside a gate can put dinner within walking distance. Choose the room orientation if a quiet night matters. North and west gate locations are useful choices for travelers who want the Old Town nearby rather than directly outside the window.

Fuxing Road has stone paving. Vehicle access has restrictions and approved exceptions, so the useful arrival detail is the hotel's actual car stop and the walk from there. With wheeled luggage or a child, compare that route before choosing an inner courtyard.

Hilton Garden Inn Dali Ancient City, at 三月街1号 outside the west side, has onsite parking. Its ordinary King/Twin rooms and Mountain View Twin rooms are different choices. Choose it for a road approach and visits to the Old Town; select the mountain-view category if that view matters.

Caicun and Longkan: sunrise and the west-shore path

Caicun 才村 and Longkan 龙龛 give access to the managed west-shore ecological corridor. Plan a lakeside morning, then a walk or bicycle outing, with time to return to your room. The road vehicle drop-off and the corridor entrance are separate parts of the arrival.

Choose a room facing the lake if you want to watch sunrise from it. A village address, courtyard room or angled view offers a different experience. Longkan Yunding Courtyard Holiday Hotel 龙龛云顶别院海景客栈, 下登村56号, lists full lake-view, oblique lake-view and courtyard categories, which makes the distinction clear. For evenings, choose a property near village food you want to use; a dinner in Old Town needs a return journey. Xizhou: Bai houses and early village walks

Choose Xizhou 喜洲 for courtyard architecture, a morning in the village and countryside walks. A central courtyard stay puts the lanes and meals close by; a property facing the fields outside Dong'an Gate 东安门 puts the landscape first. Fields change with the season. Xizhou's village centre is inland, so a field view and a lakefront room are separate choices. Ask for the vehicle meeting point and the lane or steps to your courtyard. Spend your first evening nearby and explore the village early next morning, before setting off toward the shore.

Shuanglang: a lake stay with evening activity nearby

Shuanglang 双廊 faces Cangshan across Erhai. Its art street has evening activity, making it a useful lake base when you want a stroll and food near your stay. Select the room's actual lake, mountain, town or garden view. Liuyue Wusuo 六阅·無所海景度假民宿（大理洱海双廊店）, on the shore at 双廊村四组罗莳曲, lists a first-floor lake-terrace twin and a garden double. Pick the lake-facing category for an evening by the water, and ask the hotel to meet your car at the parking drop-off and collect your luggage before you walk through the village lanes.

Airport side or Xiaguan: choose for your departure

Haidong 海东 covers a distinct east-shore area. The exact village and hotel determine airport convenience; Shuanglang and an airport-side stay serve different journeys. Four Points Dali Erhai, at 机场路与凤飞路交叉口东南侧洱海环球时代, is an airport-side option. Guest reviews from September and October 2026 note night-time traffic noise from Airport Road in lake-facing rooms. Reserve the hotel’s airport arrival pickup with your flight details, and arrange a ride-hailing car or taxi for your departure.

Xiaguan 下关 is the modern city around the southern end of Erhai. Dali railway station 大理站 is separate from Old Town. Choose the station vicinity for a rail night, using the actual road route to the station when comparing hotels. Pullman Dali, 下关洱河南路61-1号, suits a southern lakeside stay with dining at the hotel. Its Xiaguan address alone does not establish a walk to the station. Book a lake-view category to overlook Dali Port; a non-lake-view room may look out on nearby buildings.

Book the room and plan the final approach

Choose the room category, window direction and floor. For a courtyard, decide how much privacy you want; with luggage, ask about stairs, a lift and luggage help. Save the hotel's Chinese name, address and vehicle meeting pin. Agree the final walk before arrival, leave your bags, then begin with a nearby meal or walk. Arrange onward pickup at the same vehicle point.

Keep one base for a short stay. A move adds packing, checkout, another fare, luggage handling and a gap before the next check-in. Move once when a lake-property morning or evening is worth that part of the day. For the booking documents, use the hotel registration guide.
